GARNISH - A fishing settlement on the east side of Fortune Bay. It has a fine salmon river which has been much injured by weiring; a fishery warden has been appointed for it's protection. It is a post town, and a packet station for the overland route in Fortune Bay. Distance from Burin 20 miles by road. Mail fortnightly. Population 210.
